  • Individual lessons:  Scheduled intermittently on a “first-come – first served” basis.
  • Parents/students are responsible for notifying me of a cancellation.
  • Students may pro-rate lessons in the event of a known/planned scheduling conflict at the beginning of the month.
  • Students/families may reschedule their lesson if they provide me with a minimum of 24 hours advanced notice of their conflict.
  • I do not refund, credit, nor pro-rate lessons that are missed or cancelled with less than a 24-hour notice. Students missing/cancelling lessons with less than 24 hours notice will receive a recorded video lesson in place of the missed lesson.
  • Students/families may schedule a make-up lesson in the event of a student/family illness or emergency.

Lessons will be cancelled in the event of a snow day or power-outage.  Students have the option of scheduling a make-up lesson or receiving lesson credit.

  • I require that a parent or trusted adult (18 or older) accompany their student and be present with them during their lesson at my studio.
  • I also require that a parent/guardian provide an email so that I can include them in all online communication with their student via email and Google Drive.
  • I require a signed Parent/Guardian Consent Form prior to lessons granting me permission to communicate with your child online or in-person and provide them music instruction.
  • I do not share the names, email addresses, phone numbers, addresses of students nor parents with others, except as may be required by law.  I use this information solely for the purposes of student and parent contact and ongoing communication pertaining to lessons only.
  • I do not control user information that is used by third party websites, apps, or online digital platforms (such as Zoom, Google, Youtube etc.) that may be involved with online lesson activities.  I highly recommend that you consult their websites for pertinent information and details regarding their privacy practices and how they handle your personal information before you use their services.
  • My services may contain links that I share with students/parents for educational purposes, study, or information related to their lessons.  I do not control nor am responsible for these website’s privacy practices, services, or use of information.
  • This privacy policy does not apply to third party websites or services linked to Friendly Frets Guitar Instruction.
  • Online Lesson Videos:  I do record online lessons for the purposes of student/instructor safety and for the benefit of student review.  I do not share video footage of lessons except with students and their parents.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have questions or concerns regarding the management and implementation of online lesson recordings.
  • Please Note:  I encourage parents and students to read the privacy statements of each and every website and service you visit before consenting to provide your personal information.

  • Students under age 10:  Parents must remain present with their student throughout their lesson either on-screen or off-screen in the same room.
  • All lessons are scheduled according to Pacific Standard Time.  It is the responsibility of students/parents to take this into account when setting up a lesson time.
  • Connectivity Issues:  If a lesson is interrupted due to connection issues I will attempt to resolve it and continue.  If we cannot restore a connection we will set up a new lesson time to make up remaining time that went unused.

I encourage students to practice on a regular basis between lessons. Establishing a consistent practice schedule is the best way to make good progress with lessons.

  • On a regular basis I will ask students what they have worked on between lessons and encourage students to put in enough time for lessons.
  • It’s helpful when student and their families to take joint ownership towards following through on weekly practice.
  • For some families keeping a record of daily practice time has proven to be an effective gauge for determining student progress.
  • I manage all of my student’s weekly lesson handouts and media through Google Drive.
  • Each of my students has their own designated folder that will contain all of their teaching materials and media.   Students/Parents can expect to receive a share link which will grant them access to their folder.
  • Students under 18:  I require a parent email to accompany their student’s email when sharing the Google Drive folder as well as any other communications relevant to lessons.

Students will also utilize a document I refer to as “Weekly Practice Objectives.”  This document is designed to be an ongoing record and roadmap of what our current lesson topics each week.  Please review this document on a weekly basis to keep informed on what to practice and how to structure your weekly practice time.

  • Students are encouraged to list their preferred songs in the bottom grid of their Weekly Lesson Objectives on an ongoing basis.  The more songs the better!
  • I retain the right to decline teaching a specific song.  In most cases my reasons for declining will be due to sensitive/mature/offensive lyrical content or if the song is not well suited for the student nor their particular instrument.
  • I will retain the right to decide when we will begin working on a selected song.
  • Minimum 1 week advance notice:  I require a one-week, or next lesson minimum time-frame between when a student suggests a new song and when we begin working on it.
  • In general, I do not transcribe student songs outside of their designated lesson time.  However, If a student or parent would like me to figure out their chosen music outside of lessons I can provide transcription services for an additional fee for my time/services.
